Privacy policy
We collect as little as we need to run the site. This page explains what that is.
Who is responsible
sisi.news is published and operated by Silka Group (silka-group.com). To ask about your data or to make a request, write to info@silka-group.com.
What we collect
- Newsletter sign-up. If you subscribe, we store your email address, your language, the date you subscribed, the date you unsubscribed (if you do) and a random code used in the unsubscribe link.
- Two cookies. When you open a page, our server sets two small cookies in your browser. A session cookie identifies your visit, so that we can count a story as read once per visit rather than every time you refresh. It also lets the server check the security token that protects the newsletter form against forgery, and a companion cookie, XSRF-TOKEN, carries a copy of that token. The session record on our server holds a random identifier, the stories you opened and the last page you viewed, and may also record your IP address and browser type. Neither cookie reveals your name, and we do not use them to follow you to other sites.
- Server logs. The web server that hosts the site, run by our hosting provider, records each request: your IP address, the time, the page requested (including any words you searched for), your browser type and the referring page. We use the logs to keep the site secure, find faults and limit abuse. The site also keeps short-lived request counters tied to your IP address, to slow repeated form submissions and searches.
The story counter itself keeps only how many times each story was read each day. It holds no information about who read it.
Your browser keeps any text size you choose in its local storage, on your own device. We never receive it.
What we do not collect
- No reader accounts, passwords, profiles, comments or other content from readers.
- No advertising, advertising cookies or analytics and tracking services. Our pages do not currently load advertising or tracking code from other companies; if you click a share link, that service’s own policy applies.
- We do not ask for your name, phone number or location. We do not sell or rent personal data, and we do not give your email address to anyone for marketing.
How we use it
We use the newsletter address only for our newsletter, which we have not started sending; when we do, every issue will include a link to unsubscribe. We use the cookies and the logs only for counting, security and fixing faults.
How long we keep it
- Newsletter address: until you ask us to erase it. If you only unsubscribe, it stays on file, marked as unsubscribed and not used for the newsletter; if you ask us to erase it, we will.
- Cookies and session record: both stop working after about two hours without activity, and the server’s routine clean-up then deletes the session record.
- Server logs: only as long as we need them for security and fault-finding, and no longer.
- Daily story counts: kept as totals with no personal data, so we can see what people read.
Your choices and rights
You may ask us what we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it. Write to info@silka-group.com from the address you subscribed with. We aim to reply within 30 days. Copies may remain in our backups for about two weeks, until the normal backup cycle replaces them.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work, but a story may be counted more than once and the newsletter form may not confirm your sign-up, or may refuse it.
Children
sisi.news is a general news site, not aimed at children, and we do not knowingly collect children’s personal data. If you believe a child has subscribed to the newsletter, write to info@silka-group.com and we will delete the address.
Changes to this policy
If we change what we collect, for example by adding analytics, advertising or reader accounts, we will update this page first and say what has changed.
